Raavanan

It's not the best of Manirathnam’s I’ve watched and it could have been the worst, but it’s not just because of the camera work and few of the spectacular scenes like Aiswarya’s jumb, final fight on bridge, and the last scene AR’s background voice. One of the worst dialogue's I have seen in his movie and it's none other than Suhasini. It was definitely tough subject to show on screen but he could have done it better. I didn’t feel watching Mani’s movie and I was disappointed. Santhosh sivan has done a splendid job and it’s one of the best camera work I have seen in Tamil movie and just for his work you can watch this movie once more.

Movies

Weather has spoiled our X-mas plans and it’s also spoiling our new year plan, we didn’t have much choice than going to bowling and movies. I’ve seen few movies and here they are,

Twilight (The New Moon)
For the sentiment and lack of pace I was thinking that this movie has been copied from some Tamil movie. I could relate few scenes with Kadal Konden, but the sets and other stuffs are great and most of the people are liked. Even though I am not a big fan of vampires I didn’t hate this movie. But I won’t recommend watching this..

Blind Side
I always like the movies which are brought from the real story and this is one among them. Everybody has acted well and it’s a huge hit here. I believe everybody wants to help others like Sandra Bullock did in this movie and that could be one reason all liked it. “Big Mike” and the kid have acted so well and off course Sandra was too good.

Invictus
“I am the captain of my soul” is the famous dialogue of this movie. It’s a real story of Nelson Mandela and his countries Rugbee team winning the cup. As always, Morgan freeman’s acting was too good. He is perfect to play the Nelson Mandela’s role and Matt Damn didn’t have much to do except his South African accent. The movie is so slow but it’s worth watching to get to know the few characteristics of one of the legends of this era.

Sherlock Holmes
Until I was stepping out of our room to go to this movie I didn’t know that, there is a story book called Sherlock Holmes and which was so famous. The movie has started little slow and it was getting interested as it progressed. The science has played major role in all the investigation. The amazing thing was the set to bring back the 18th century in the screen, which was too good except that nobody is alive today to say whether the 18th century is same as the one which is shown in that movie. I wish I want to be intelligent as Sherlock Holmes and as I said it’s just a wish.. :)

And finally the Avatar,
Even in a dream you can’t imagine the visual effects of this movie.. It’s the best graphics that I’ve ever seen and I heard that the director was waited for the technologies to get advanced to take this movie. That could be one reason why it took 10 years to take this movie. Kudos’s to the visual effects team who brought the directors visualization in the screen. Again in this movie I tend to relate to a Tamil movie were love and sentiments and climax fight and only kuthu songs were missing. And also the believe of god in other plant which makes us stupid. In fact the climate has been tried in Tamil long back as “கூடு விட்டு கூடு பாய்றது!”. This movie is a delight to watch in I-MAX with 3D and it’s already breaking the records and it will break all the records sooner.

That’s all I have watched in the last few weeks and wish you happy New Year to all. I am greatly exited about my trip to India next week.

Academy winner AR Rahman!!!

First of all congrats to AR Rahman for winning the Oscar awards and he is the only person who got two awards in this 81st academy award. My heartily congratulations to Resul Pokkuty and the way he dedicated the award to our country. It’s really a great achievement and the way I am looking at this award is an eye opener for the world cinema saying that people in India are capable of doing anything. But I am little bit worried by the way some of the Indians are behaving regarding the Slum Dog Millionaire. The reason behind is this movie portrays the poor part of Mumbai city and people are thinking that because of this movie the west is thinking that India is poor and corrupted country. I am certainly disagree with this point since I am staying in a US and most of the normal US citizen’s whom I meet in a day to day life have told me that this is the best movie that they have seen. It’s not because of the reason it depicts the poor and corruption it’s because of the hope, and the interest that showed to understand the other culture. I am sure that the people who watched the movie here are fully involved in each and every scene and everybody wants the Jamal (Hero of the movie) to win the million bucks and the feel inside the theater was similar like“sachin hitting the six at the last ball to make India win”. Nobody has asked me that whether the whole India is like this because they knew that Indian’s are all over the world and the movie depicts one small part of country and in addition to that they knew that their own people who are suffering by poor in their own country. They were clear that the problem which was shown in this movie is not only exists in India which exists all over the world.

I agree with most of my friends and people who are saying that if an Indian directed or produced this movie whether it would have been nominated for Oscar. I guess it may not but I believe that after these Oscars (nine Oscars which are based on Indian story) the world is looking at us and they will appreciate our work and I feel that this movie was the exposure to the whole world saying that we are also competing with Hollywood. Yes we do have enough talent and we will get more and more Oscars in the coming years. Finally I am really happy that the Smile Pinki has won the best Documentary and I am really happy that because of this movie Pinki got surgery for cleft-lip. These kinds of films are making awareness across our country even across world and it should be very much appreciated.

After all the movie was based on a novel return by an Indian Vikas Swarup. So Please understand that no one from England came here to “show that India is bad or corrupted country” in a movie. Once again I really congratulate the award winners and I wish it will open the door for the Indian movies from the next academy award. I also wish if Danny Boyle can take a movie which shows the real glory of India of which none of the other countries have in the world then it will be great and he will be praised by the people who are criticizing him now.
I wish Indian movie should win the best foreign category movie in the next academy award. This post is completely my personal opinion.

Movies Three in a row..

Slum Dog Millionaire

The other side of the Mumbai has been shown with the stunning cinematography. Concept of one hour show has kept the momentum till the end of 2 hour movie. It’s a must watch movie. Now it’s started getting released in many new theaters after a month the movie has been into the show, I expect it would be a huge hit.

Yes Man

This is the first time I am seeing Jim carry’s movie in theater and it’s worth watching. It’s just a concept of saying the word “Yes”. How simple is that???????? Go and watch it.

Seven Pounds

The movie from the director who directed the Pursuit of happiness. He has proved once again and I have almost cried. Single man (Will smith) steals the show and I always like him acting in these kinds of movies.  Screenplay was awesome though it was slightly slow for 10 minutes in the first half. Definitely one should watch.

In all of these three movies there is one similarity which is the concept behind the movie. It’s simple but so powerful. I wonder how these Hollywood directors are taking such movies. There is something on them.. :)

Varanam Aayiram

Surya has showed lots of change on his body and I felt that, the Dad character was not well suited for him. First half was very good since it has too many songs and it was going fast. But the second half was little bit slow and there are only 2 songs (i think) and it’s a lengthy movie (3 hours). Again in this movie also there are few (may be more than few) scenes which were happened in my life too. It's a very good movie which shows the very relationship between dad and son. Overall the movie was good and one can watch it silently. There were no stupid mistakes except the lengthy second off and off course it won't come under the stupid mistakes list. Surya was superb in the last half hour but the heroine was not 25 % what Surya was by looking though she was 2 times bigger than him :-). First time in US I am watching the Tamil movie in a good theater but I cannot compare with Satyam.

A week..

There are quite a lot of things happened in the past one week. We got a biggggg (30”) TV in our room and we were able to see the US open matches from 4th round. As I expected Federer came into final and unexpectedly Nadal has lost in semi. Murray was too good in all his matches and he had the potential to beat Nadal in the Semi. But he couldn’t carry his consistency against the great opponent in the final and at the end he lost in straight sets. It’s really a great achievement by Federer to win the US open 5 times consecutively. He holds 13 Grand slams and one short of Sampras record.
I couldn’t remember when I have watched the hindi movie in the theater. But we went to Rock on and it simply Rocks. And today we went to movie called Saroja with some expectations and none of them were met. It’s simply waste.

About my work as usual I am getting bored and I am trying to learn some new stuff….

Kuselan – A Business

It’s a great business under the name of “Super Star”. A single line of story to recollect his previous movies. But not even a single scene which is comparable to the original movies. I think he wants to touch the people sentimentally. Like how MGR did in his movies. But he is using the friendship as a medium and it’s just one movie which won’t create that impact. They have used nice technique at the end of the movie for 20 minutes to let everyone talk about Rajini’s real character. It wont’ creates that impact since everyone knows his real life as "he was a conductor". In the movie they have told that too.. When pasupathy was telling that he is a friend of Rajini, santhanam will ask him “If you are friend of Rajini you can be driver but how can Rajini be a friend of Barber”.

I red lot’s of reviews which was explaining about “Rajini has answered most of the questions that everyone wants to know”. But it was not even worth for a single percent of what the review says.

At the end it will be a huge hit in south India and the producer will be very happy..
